Typically, amplifying a keyboard is accomplished in one of a few ways similar to the way we amplify an acoustic guitar. In situations where the band plays through a PA or house system, keyboards are usually run directly through the mix. Monitors are used to allow the player to hear himself. Sometimes, in order to gain better control over the playing level and balance, the keyboardist will use an independent, smaller PA system and send the submix to the house. Additionally, there are dedicated amplifiers designed specifically for keyboards.
