Getting the Most Out of the Lessons
PLAYMUSICFREE.COM is dedicated to helping anyone interested to learn more about music. The lessons presented here follow what we consider to be the most logical progression, with each lesson building on the last. The lessons with the green buttons are generally the easiest or contain tools and exercises which are essential to becoming an accomplished musician. While there is nothing wrong with jumping ahead into the more advanced lessons, be aware that the lessons build on each other to form a complete curriculum. When possible, links are included within the lessons to reference earlier lesson material which might be helpful. Please feel free to e-mail with any questions or suggestions for future lessons.
Green
buttons lead to lessons which we feel are essential building blocks for
all musicians. For those just getting started, mastering these lessons will
help you to develope hand strength and dexterity and help you to form a solid
foundation. More advanced players will benefit by improving their technique
and speed. Repetition is the real teacher here. The patterns of intervals and
note sequences are, in a sense, arbitrary. Any scale sequence played repetitively
through the full range of each position will eventually integrate into your
playing and make you a stronger musician.
Yellow
buttons lead to lessons which are designed to provide the player with a
better understanding of music as it relates to his/her instrument. Musical explanations
are presented along with fingering charts and diagrams which are specific to
a given instrument. Providing a foundation in basic harmony and theory is the
goal of this group of lessons. Also, these will be the building blocks for the
more advanced lessons as well as lessons by special guest contributors.
Red
buttons lead to presentations of concepts which require a basic understanding
of harmony and theory. They might be improvisational in nature or explore the
mode system and other more complex musical ideas. Any player can easily grasp
these ideas provided that the proper foundation has been set. For the more advanced
player looking to break through to a new level, these lessons are ideal. These
are the real world tools that motivated players can use to become monsters on
thier instrument.
